It was a beautiful day to hike Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park on March 21, 2015. The troop met on time for an early start on the 2-hour drive followed by a 9-mile hike having an elevation gain around 2,500 feet.
Scouts worked on map and compass skills and scrambled over rocks along the way.
It was a hard hike, but the scouts still had smiles and showed great teamwork.
Our senior scouts were instrumental in assisting the smaller scouts several times when longer arms and legs were needed. Thanks to Will and Aidan!
Assistant Scoutmaster Sam Harper took time from away from his 8-month old son to come on this hike. We are grateful!
After the hike back down, it felt great to get the boots off and dip our feet into the frigid creek. We had to refill water bottles, and were able to use filters to purify creek water (upstream from the feet!). Then it was great to just hang out at the creek for a bit.
