As part of the path towards earning the cycling merit badge, the troop rode bicycles 21 miles from Capitol Hill to Swain’s Lock on the C & O Canal on October 19, bringing tents and other camping gear. Extra gear capacity was provided by a bicycle trailer pulled by Matt for most of the trip. Along the way, we saw several Great Blue Herons and a walking stick insect. The scouts learned how locks work and visited Great Falls. The weather was perfect, and after a moonlit overnight campout we rode back to St. Peter’s Church on Sunday.
