Lenten Fish Fry at St. Peter’s!!
Troop 380’s annual planning event, the Plan Stuff-A-Thon, was held on June 2nd at Theodore Roosevelt Island. Most scouts rode bikes there where the Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader led the planning for the upcoming year and even long term planning for high-adventure trips for the next 5 years.
On Sunday April 7, Joe P. planned and led his Eagle Service Project for the benefit of the National Park Service at Fort Hunt Park in Alexandria. After receiving a briefing about safety and which plants needed removal, volunteers removed many bags of the invasive English Ivy from the park. Interestingly, since poison ivy is native to the area, the Park Service did not want that removed. Additionally, instead of pulling the ivy off the trees which damages the tree bark, in most cases, just a section of the ivy was removed to kill that plant without causing damage to the tree.
Come to Pack and Troop 380’s Join Scouting Night (JSN) for families interested in fun and Scouting. Scouts, leaders and parents will be on hand to answer questions and assist families with completing applications. Representatives from the Scout Store will be selling uniforms and Scouts from Troop 380 will be demonstrating skills such as fire building and knot tying.

A strong faction of Scouts journeyed to Camp Bowman, a part of Goshen Scout Reservation for a great week of camping, ghost stories, learning and fun. The troop got to experience the Independence Day fireworks and festivities. The lot got up early for a Pirates Breakfast on Lake Merriweather with other troops from across D.C. Everyone earned many merit badges and learned a lot.
The troop went to Gettysburg May 18-20 for a biking tour of the battlefield. We got a firsthand look at the site of the famous Civil War battle and learned about Pickett’s Charge and other aspects of this seminal battle.

Thanks to all who supported our Fish Fry fundraiser. Here are some pictures from our trip to Maine last summer. This summer, we will backpack in western Virginia, and in 2018 we will ride horseback in rural New Mexico. Funds from the Fish Fry support those big trips and year-round camping, leadership and character development.
